Welcome to the official webpage for the music of singer/songwriter Matt Haeck.

Around the turn of the millennium, the winds began to blow upon Matt Haeck’s Discman, the Top-40 chaff disappeared on the wind, and what was left was the savory wheat of the gospel bluegrass he had enjoyed during his childhood. These seeds were replanted, but only after a bit of genetic engineering, fusing the genes of acoustic pop, indie rock, and classic country. What grew over the course of the next few years was a harvest that includes Matt’s recent LP, Pair of Sirens, and from that harvest the loaves that are currently in the oven, a new EP (due out late 2008 ) featuring the single that has fans raving, “Drug Like the Ocean.”

A midwesterner transplanted to San Diego, Matt has been bringing his folk stylings to bear on a growing acoustic pop scene since 2006, adding a maturity and richness that belie his age. From his humble beginnings singing hymns around the family piano, Matt has grown into a mature singer and songwriter, bearing the influences of Wilco, Rufus Wainwright, and Derek Webb. In addition to the aforementioned projects and playing extensively throughout Southern California, Matt hopes to tour in the fall of 2008.

Upon listening to Pair of Sirens the listener will quickly recognize Matt’s talent for writing tunes with a musical and lyrical hook. Matt creatively works within traditional song forms and yet provides his own unique take on those forms. Matt’s music, while having pop sensibilities, has no problem communicating deeper truths not found in your ordinary radio rotation. All of us would do well to listen.
